The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday issued a statement over the criticism of the drop-in pitch at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

“ICC recognises that the pitches used so far at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not played as consistently as we would have all wanted. The world-class grounds team have been working hard since the conclusion of yesterday’s game to remedy the situation and deliver the best possible surfaces for the remaining matches,” the governing body said.

The pitch at the New York venue has been under the scanner for its uneven bounce which has made life difficult for the batters.

In the two matches at the venue so far, the teams batting first, Sri Lanka and Ireland, have been bundled out for 77 and 96 runs, respectively.

Captains of Sri Lanka and South Africa, Wanindu Hasaranga and Aiden Markram, had termed the pitch ‘too slow’ at the post-match presentation after their game.

India captain Rohit Sharma after his side’s match against Ireland on Wednesday had said, ” I don’t know what to expect from the pitch to be honest, but we will prepare as if the conditions are going to be like this.”

India plays arch-rival Pakistan at the same venue on Sunday.
