Kolkata Knight Riders clinched the Indian Premier League as it beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final by eight wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday.
This is the third title for the Shreyas Iyer-led side and the first in 10 years.
Mitchell Starc justified his outrageous price tag as he dismissed the dangerous Abhishek Sharma in the first over of the match and went on to scalp Rahul Tripathi’s wicket as well to apply early pressure on Pat Cummins’ men. The spin duo of Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine too delivered as they dried up the runs in the middle overs while also picking up a wicket each.
A top-class display from the KKR helped their side restrict SRH to a paltry 113 in 20 overs.
The momentum was on KKR’s side right from the start as it got off to a blazing start, thanks to Venkatesh Iyer, who scored 24-ball 50.
